Oral History Workshop To Be
First Event in 2000!

he
next workshop in Oral History will take place 2-4 p.m., January
9, 2000, at Congregation BíNai Israel in Albuquerque. Admission
is $5 for members and $10 for non-members. Our society is placing
a high priority on training people in the art of collecting
oral histories. We are eager to have members become part of
the process by attending this excellent presentation. Sharon
Niederman, author and research archivist, has taught these skills
to many people in the community. If you have an interest in
any aspect of oral history, you will be richly rewarded by attending
this workshop. If you want to learn to record and preserve family
stories and precious memories, this workshop can help you get
started.

Why Acoma?
Already a popular place for many
to visit, Acoma was selected as the focal point of this yearís
conference to honor the memory of Solomon Bibo. In an effort
to offer a unique experience for conference attendees, we have
arranged for a special tour of the Sky City. We will see some
unusual places not normally seen on the standard tour of Acoma.
As we go to press we are negotiating with the tribal leaders
to have a special ceremony with the ìcolor guard,î who will
offer an invocation for the Society conference. This will be
a memorable event and is certain to create long-lasting memories
for all who attend. Informal lectures on the bus will amplify
the understanding of life in Acoma and the surrounding villages
during pioneer days. The bus to Acoma will have video players
so that we can show a new oral history of the Bibo family.
