Archives Grant Project
By Daphne DeLeon Consulting Archivist
s of January 2001 the Archives Grant Project had completed the first two phases of the work plan and was embarking on the third phase. The first two phases of the Project involved surveying the processed collection and creating a collection management policy. The collection management policy contains recommendations and sample forms that are based on the results of the collection survey. The survey captured the number of photographs, letters, etc. in the processed collection, documented their condition, and how they were arranged.
The third phase of the Archives Grant Project involved Society volunteers. Using the recommendations provided in the collection management policy, the volunteers, under the supervision of Claire Grossman and the consultant, placed the materials of the processed collection into archival folders, enclosures, and boxes. This will serve to prolong the lifespan of the materials. Twenty Society members signed up to volunteer for this third phase. We worked on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the State Archives.
We successfully completed the work for the first grant including a user-friendly finding aid. We have received a second grant to house and preserve new acquisitions. Anyone interested in volunteering for this project please contact Claire Grossman via the New Mexico Jewish Historical Society telephone number or Daphne at the State Archives (505-476-7954) by July 28, 2001.
